Fidel Sankar, 32, is the new Mr T&T, following his convincing performance at Saturday’s National Junior Body Building and Fitness Championship staged by the T&T Body Builders and Fitness Federation (TTBBFF). This was at the ballroom of the Cascadia Hotel and Conference Centre, St Ann’s, where Sankar pressed his competitor in the men’s light heavyweight class to better him. Their responses to his challenge was fickle. He took his confidence into the men’s overall and throughout the execution of the mandatory poses the audience stayed in his corner, heightening his sense of certitude.
Sanker out of Long Circular Wellness Club, under trainer Aston Ashby, had previously entered and won the novice class at the Sport World Classic, but it’s the first time in 16 consecutive years of training, he offered himself and followed through on competing under the TTBBFF banner. Laura Doon took home the Miss T&T prize. She was the lone athlete in this class, but her muscle development and overall presentation was of a high quality which the audience saluted with rapturous cheers. It was now clear that fitness buffs in the attendance and the judges alike shared similar views on which athlete deserved to be called as winner, as witnessed in the Bodyfitness Open Class won by T’Chell Harris and the new Mr Physique category won by Louis Warren-Charles. The weekend card featured 33 athletes in the spotlight, but the audience jeered the majority of them who were visibly underprepared for this prestigious fitness and body sculpting event.
