T&T’s Matthew Marquez, Wan Ju Lee and Sachin Kumar won their respective categories as the country finished in second place for the Hank James (Overall) Trophy on the final day of the 25th annual Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships in the Dominican Republic Thursday. The team finished 16 points behind defending champions Puerto Rico and its captain Jean Marc Lawrence and coach Chris Richards were very pleased with the results. Marquez held his composure and stuck to his game plan to take the Boys 16-17 age group. Starting the day eight strokes ahead of his nearest competitor, he remained patient to finish his round at level par to lead the category by 10 strokes over the host country’s Jose Hernandez.
In the Boys 14-15 category, T&T’s Ju Lee finished with a comfortable five over par 77 to lead by nine shots to win his category also by nine shots. In the Boys 13 and Under, Kumar burned up the course with a five under par 67 to also win his category with teammate Liam Bryden taking second place with his level par performance. In the Girls 16-17 category Christina Ferreira shot 83 to come in second behind Puerto Rico’s Maria Torres. The ever steady Isabelle Lawrence shot 14 over to finish at 88. In the Girls 13 and Under Sabrina Mitchell finished with 88 to maintain her fourth place.
