THE Central Badminton Academy and Club (CBAC) will host an Open Junior tournament at the Chaguanas Regional Indoor Sport Arena, Saith Park, Chaguanas, November 19 and 20.

This competition is open to all badminton clubs and schools in Trinidad and Tobago.

It is especially designed for Under-11 and Under-19 players.

The tournament will be categorized into singles and doubles, both male and female. But time and availability of court space would not permit mixed doubles.

There will be a general registration fee of $30 per event while action is limited to three events per competitor.

CBAC is only three years old and club members have already seen major success at local and international tournaments. Earlier this year, Leon Cassie was crowned champion among the Under-11s at the CAREBACO tournament in Barbados while three other club members earned silver medals.

Meanwhile, club members have already been visiting schools and raising the awareness of the forthcoming tournament.  The CBAC members have already visited schools in Point Fortin, Valencia, Penal, Caroni, Tableland,  Manzanilla , Carapichaima, Sangre Grande, Port-of- Spain, Westmoorings and San Femando.  The Chaguanas- based club is currently headed by two top former national female players, Sabrina Cassie and Zeudie Mack.

Cassie who is club president, is certain that this year’s competition will assist with the  re-introduction  of the sport at the national level.

Also endorsing the initiative is former 10-time men’s national champion, Trevor Smith. Smith admitted that such tournaments would do great things for the re-elevation of badminton in Trinidad and Tobago.

For more information, email the club at or log on to or contact Sabrina Cassie (360-0942), Zeudi Mack  (799-1780), Dave Cassie (708-9712), PJ Williams (680-2421).
