Are you ready?!?! Attention!!! GOOOO!!! That’s’ all our paddlers want to hear at race time. It’s that time of year again; the Trinidad and Tobago Dragon Boat Federation (TTDBF) has started the season with the 9th Annual Inter-school Dragon Boat Regatta held on Sunday 9th , April, at The Boardwalk in Chaguaramas. The opening ceremony began at 9:00am with greetings and welcoming remarks from TTDBF President, Keith Dalip, along with Mr. Franco Siu Chong, whom represented the sponsor of the event, Excellent Stores ltd. Special guests included the Honourable Minister of Education, Mr. Anthony Garcia, and the Honourable Minister of Sport, Mr. Darryl Smith. Both shared their support and enthusiasm for the sport with the crowd of paddlers, family, friends and supporters. The dotting of the eye ceremony ensued and then races were off by 10:00am. This year our federation has grown again to have sixteen (16) schools participating in this regatta. The schools namely are, ASJA Boys’ College, Bishops Anstey High School, Fatima College, Hillview College, Holy Name Convent, Naparima Girls’ High School, Polytechnic Institute, Queen’s Royal College, St Augustine Girls’ High School, St Francois Girls’ College, St. Joseph’s Convent Port of Spain, St. Joseph’s Convent San Fernando, St. Joseph’s Convent St Joseph, St Mary’s College, South East Port of Spain, and Trinity College. The public was invited to attend and participate by showing support for their favourite teams vying for the top spot in six (6) different categories: all-female under16 small boat, all-female under21 small boat, all-female under21 standard boat, all-male under21 small boat, all-male under21 standard boat, and mixed under21 small boat.
