CHAGUANAS, Trinidad: Nayvion Lett of Eastside Martial Arts Academy was the first champion to be crowned at the 2017 Caribbean Taste of China All Styles Martial Arts Championships at the Central Indoor Regional Arena in Saith Park, Chaguanas earlier today (Sunday, May 21). Lett took homw the Novice 10-12 Class in the Kata Division and led a sweep of the top four places for his club. The St. Hillary Preparatory School student finished ahead of six other competitors to take home the top prize. In second place was Gabrielle Lopez with Emily Gadar tying and  Richai Ramlogan Foster  tying for third place.  Lett received his prize from Xing Xuejun, Chief of the Culture Office of the Chinese Embassy.

 

Daniel Gomes (Amenphis) captured the Novice 7-9 Kata trophy ahead of Kyle Rahamali (Kakari & Kung FU) and Nastahia Thompson (Academy of Contemporary Martial Arts). Daniel’s club-mate Isaiah Trumpet secured the Intermediate 7-9 Kata honours with the Academy of Contemporary Martial Arts duo of Ariana Ragbarsingh and Jaden Murray taking second and third places respectively. Aiden Boodansingh (Golden Eagle) landed the Intermediate 10-12 Kata crown. Zion Chuck (Academy of Contemporary Martial Arts) claimed the runner-up spot with Nikash Ritarram (Kalari & Kung Fu) and Matthias Alibey (Golden Ealges) tying for third. Samir Amir topped the field in the in the Advanced 10-12 Kata. Rohan Surjdeo (Pandolin) claimed silver with Arun Aknath and Noah Sorillo both of Academy of Contemporary Martial Arts sharing the bronze.

Golden Eagle karate’s dominated the Novice 13-15 field with Navindra Ramsarran taking gold ahead of  Elijah Joseph/ Osagie Davd (tied for second),  Kace Mitchell and  Shakira Sandy

The Kata Division was the first of Divisions in the Championships. The competitors battled for the top honours in the Weapons, Sparing and Self Defence Categories later in the day.

 

The Caribbean Taste of China All Styles Martial Arts Championships has been existence for over five years and is hosted by the PKATT Sports Martial Arts Association of Trinidad and Tobago and the Wushu Association of Trinidad and Tobago. Sifo Rahman Khabir is the coordinator of the one-day tournament which is the  fifth tournament for the year on the local Martial Arts calendar.
