The young ladies of St James Secondary School are 2017’s School Girls Rugby League champions, the 4th school to reign since the developmental rugby competition was instituted 6 years ago.
In a final which did not disappoint between this season’s two most consistent teams, St James bested Bishop Anstey High School’s B team by a scoreline of 15-5.
St James jumped out to a first half lead following scored by their young stars Pateia Paul and Jade Husbands, throwing the onus firmly on Bishop’s to respond. Arissa Romany, a talisman for Bishop’s in her own right this season got them over the goal line once in the second half to cut the deficit but Paul scored again soon after for St James and effectively ended the contest.
This high tempo affair was the second time the teams met for the season. Their previous meeting was also a disappointing result for Bishops as St James smeared their perfect record on the very last day of league play.
