CHARLOTTEVILLE, Tobago: (Friday, May, 5): Surf N Turf remains ahead after the second day of the 22nd annual Tobago International Billfish Tournament on Thursday. The Barry Singh George led crew tallied 3750 points to continue to lead the twelve- boat International division. The team did not have a successful day as on the first day on Wednesday with a lone blue marlin caught by Sean McLean just before 1:00pm. On the opening day the leaders released six blue marlins. The top five placing remained the same with Hopscotch is still in second (2750) and Queen B third, narrowly ahead of Knot Easy, both on 2500 points. Fun Now is in fifth (2000). Hopscotch landed a tuna caught by Adam Aleung just before 10:30am. Knot Easy reeled in a sail fish just after 10:00am. Liam Gullien was the lucky angler. Sixth placed Magic Lady (2000) caught a two blue marlins (Jonathan De La Rosa-around 10:45am and Glen Charlotte-around 11:00am). Lead Us Knot made the first successful release of the day at around 7:40am with a sailfish nabbed by Noble Marquez. Lead Us Not is in 10th position (1500), dropping down one spot from the previous day’s rankings. Black Child 2 has a much better second day holding on to dolphin of 16.0 pounds (David Best-7:50am), blue marlin (David Smart-8:30am) and 12.5 lb yellow fin tuna (Geoffrey Telesford). However, Grenadian boat remained in 12th place with 750 points.
Deadliest Catch continues to lead the local category (200) ahead of Big Winner (100) and Conda Wow Wow Wow (100), Man of Steel (23.6) and Secret Emotion (17.3).
The female anglers shone as Allison Devaux of Pair-a-Dice, Tachelle Mohammed of Men of Steel and Remember Me Now crew member Tricia Lyons made successful haul. Devaux landed her second straight wahoo. Her Thursday’s catch weighed in at 36.10 pounds. Pair-a-Dice is competing in the International division. Mohammed (T) brought to the scales a 23.60 pound wahoo for her boat which is competing in the local division. Lynch was on target for the second straight day her Barbadian crew when she caught and released a blue marlin just before 8:00am. Lynch also hooked a blue marlin the previous day. Jamal Mohammed of Secret Emotions was the first angler of the day to bring to shore a king fish which tipped the scales at 17.3 pounds.
Black Child 2 of Grenada capped off their outstanding day by bringing to a 12.50 lb yellow fin tuna and a dolphin weighing 16.0 pounds.
Among the spectators on Day Two was Government Senator Nigel De Freitas .
On Thursday seven marlins were reported released by the international botch and one by locals. Eleven billfish, three sailfish, three dolphin, one tuna and one wahoo were the species hooked. The anglers are on a rest day on Friday and will continue action on Saturday, the final day of the tournament.
Seventy-seven (77) aboard 20 vessels are competing for top honours. Twelve boats are entered in the International Division with entries from Tobago, Trinidad, Grenada and Barbados. Party Time won the 2016 edition of the tournament.
