T&T was crowned overall champions in the Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championship at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, when the curtains came down on the tournament on Sunday.

The teams from the twin-island republic accumulated the most points after action from the men, women and veteran team categories. T&T men’s team entered the final day in the top position Sunday but went down to a determined Bermuda team 3-2 in the final to surrender the the top spot in the group and winner’s cheque.

T&T’s Colin Ramasra struggled to find his form, going down to Noah Browne of Bermuda in three sets 11-2 11-5 11-6 in the opening game before Kale Wilson was also defeated by Micah Franklin in similar fashion 11-7 11-8 11-7.

The Bermudans sealed the win in the five-game series, when Patrick Foster later whipped Mandela Patrick 13-11 8-11 11-7 11-5. T&T got two consolation wins when Nku Patrick prevailed over Kristen Johnson 11-9 11-9 11-7 and Chayse McQuan reigned supreme over Anthony Fellowers 13-11 11-7 11-7. T&T secured the runner-up spot in the group while Guyana was third.

The T&T women finished third in the group following a series of poor performances through-out the tournament. In the final Barbados defeated Guyana for the top spot while the Guyanese settled for second.

Among the veterans T&T also went down to Barbados in the final 3-2. The home team surrendered to defeat after losing their first three matches, as John Holley was beaten by Mark Sealy 5-11 11-2 11-4 11-5; Ingrid Lloyd succumbed to Lynn De Cambra 11-8 13-11 11-8 and Ru Celestine suffering defeat to Andrea Goodridge 11-5 11-2 11-3. Victory for T&T came from Richard Hart and Paul De Verteuil who clobbered Leon Truss 12-10 11-3 11-6 and Don Benn 11-9 11-1 11-5 respectively.

The result meant taht the Barbadians took the winner’s prize among the veterans while T&T were second. The Cayman Islands were third.
