CENTRAL Zone beat North by eight wickets on Wednesday to capture the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board’s Under-17 Inter Zone crown at the National Cricket Centre Grund in Balmain, Couva.
North Zone, previously unbeaten in the competition, won the toss and batted first but were dismissed for a disappointing total of 133 in 37.1 of the allotted 50 overs.
Central Zone then cruised to victory, reaching 134 for the loss of only two wickets in just 21.3 overs on the back of a superb innings of 63 by Kyle Kissoondath who hit 11 boundaries in 85 balls.
Kissoondath got good support from Rajiv Ramnath who made 25, with captain Aaron Bankay contributing 19.
Topscorer for North Zone was Chadeon Raymond who struck 62 with five boundaries off 93 balls while Nicholas Elliot got 22, comprising five hits to the ropes off just 35 balls.
The only other scorer to reach double figures was Jahrel Nedd who got 10.
Best of the Central Zone bowlers was Rajiv Droojansingh who captured three wickets for 27 runs in eight overs while, Ronnistrer Perreira (2 for 21) and Shiva Sankar (2 for 22) were also instrumental in pegging back the North Zone batsmen.
Nick Ramlal and Daniel Fletcher also picked up one scalp apiece in a clinical bowling performance by the Central Zone lads.
It was second straight TTCB Inter Zone championship victory for Central having swept the Under-15 title last month with a defeat of South East Zone in the final.
