ONE of central Trinidad’s most successful development competitions is set to attract a record participation from secondary school cricketers who will be at home during the upcoming Easter vacation.

The Sam Jattan Cricket League has traditionally been a showpiece of budding cricket talent where participants have gone on to represent their zones at various levels with many going on to represent the national team.

Interim chairman of the league, Manohar Ramsaran said that the tournament is definitely on after a very successful run last year when Presentation College of Chaguanas defeated a Chancellor Hotel XI in the final.

Ramsaran, a former minister of sport and a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board has set April 1 as the deadline for registration of team which he said can be from any part of Trinidad and Tobago.

He said the 30-overs competition presents an excellent opportunity to pursue their sport of choice over the school holidays and is especially important for the Sam Jattan Cricket League to maintain its relevance in the Central Zone development program.

Sam Jattan was a former well-known political activist and county councilor who contested the Caroni East seat in General Elections in the 1980s.

Teams interested in participating in the league can contact Ramsaran at 684-2001 or Central Zone co-ordinator Neisha Wildman at 314-0178.
